DISTRIBUTOR BUYING GUIDE
How to Specify House Wrap for Wholesale: 8 Specs Distributors Should Demand
Prepare a house-wrap wholesale enquiry with eight checks covering product identity, moisture data, exposure, compatibility, format, packing and documents.
1. Product identity and intended wall use
Name the offered product code and construction, intended cladding and wall assembly. Distinguish an available standard product from a requested custom format so the quotation does not silently substitute one for the other.
ASTM E2556 covers a category of mechanically attached vapor-permeable flexible wall water-resistive barriers. Its public scope does not establish installed performance or certify RIDGELOCK HW as a particular class.
Source basis: ASTM E2556/E2556M-10(2022) — public scope.
2. Moisture properties with test conditions
Request the vapor and water-resistance information needed to assess the proposed wall, with methods, units and conditions. Do not select by one universal breathability target or infer properties from a white woven appearance.
3. Strength and installation evidence
Keep reported strength values with their methods and directions. Obtain instructions for the selected attachment and substrate. Product weight or reinforcement terminology alone cannot establish installed wind performance.
4. Construction exposure and storage
Ask for the exact permitted uncovered exposure, storage conditions and inspection steps after damage or delay. Do not assume every wall can remain exposed for weeks or assign a competitor’s exposure rating to the offered product.
5. Tapes, fasteners and flashing integration
Confirm the compatible materials and installation detail for joints, openings and penetrations. PNNL describes the importance of continuity between the drainage plane and flashing.
Do not prescribe one universal tape rule or substitute tape for the complete water-control detail. Obtain the instructions applicable to the selected wrap and wall assembly.

6. Weight, width, length and coverage
Request nominal mass per area, actual roll dimensions, gross area and tolerances. Explain any required width in the enquiry; do not presume that 8 ft, 9 ft or 10 ft is available, stocked or suitable for the order.
Keep gross roll area separate from installed yield after laps and cuts. Confirm the roll format with the quotation rather than deriving it from an illustration or a historical offer.
7. Packing and repeat-order identification
Confirm rolls per pallet, gross packed weight, dimensions, wrapping and label details. Agree how product code and batch identification will link the order to shipment records.
Specify which artwork and packing details must stay consistent on a repeat order, and how proposed changes will be approved.
8. Documentation and the final quotation
Request the available data sheet, installation instructions and relevant reports for the exact product. Keep missing information visible before claiming suitability to a customer.
For RIDGELOCK HW, confirm the construction, format, available documents, MOQ, price and dispatch scope in the quotation. Any E2556 class claim needs a matching product report. Sample availability, cost and freight are agreed before dispatch.
